HARRISONBURG Harrisonburg ranks 18th on a list of the 100 smartest cities in America in a report by Lumosity. Lumosity, offers brain training programs for people of all ages.
Lumosity users play games to improve five areas of brain functioning. The five functions targeted are memory, attention, flexibility, speed of processing and problem solving.
The report used scores from more than 3 million people in the U.S. that played the brain training games. Not surprisingly, most of the cities and towns on the list are big college towns.
Daniel Sternberg, a Lumosity data scientist, was not surprised.
"I think because they're interested in cognition. We found that Harrisonburg was able to come out number 18, which goes along with several other smaller metro areas that contain a large research university," said Sternberg.
Sternberg said people in college towns are more interested in playing the games. Lumosity claims to have collected the world's largest dataset of human cognitive performance.
