Haunted Barn Raises Money For St. Judes Children's Research Hospital

HARRISONBURG, Va (WHSV)-- Local community members are celebrating the Halloween season by hosting the Augusta County Haunted Barn. All money raised goes to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.

Last year, the community raised more than $3,000 for St. Jude. This year, organizers said they want to top that number.

The event originally started in 2009 as an activity for the organizers' kids. It quickly turned into the big fundraiser that it is today.

Eric Patterson is one of the founders of this event. He said it has become a community tradition that people look forward to all year long.

"The fact that all these people come together and volunteer their time and effort is what has been so touching and moving for me," said Patterson.

Patterson said the barn has given the community a chance to work together to give back.

Some local businesses have helped financially to support the barn, but the rest of the funds have come out of the pockets of the volunteers.
