RICHMOND, Va. (AP) — A former health adviser has testified in former Virginia Gov. Bob McDonnell's public corruption trial.
Molly Huffstetler said Monday that she met with the governor's wife, Maureen, and businessman Jonnie Williams to discuss a nutritional supplement manufactured by the Williams' company. Bob McDonnell had asked that someone from Huffstetler's office attend the meeting.
Huffstetler said Williams did almost all the talking. According to her notes, Williams told her McDonnell said a state tobacco commission was going to finance a study of his chief product, Anatabloc. But she says nothing ever came of the meeting.
McDonnell and his wife, Maureen, are charged in a 14-count indictment with accepting more than $165,000 in gifts and loans from Williams in exchange for their help promoting his company's products. Williams testified under immunity for the prosecution.
