Every year, tens of millions of drivers hit the roads for the Fourth of July, but this year, gas prices are a dollar more than they were last year.
George King, traveling with four daughters, says they cut back on other things to make up for the gas expense.
"There will be five of us in a hotel room sometime in the next hour, packing a cooler," he says. "So, that's one of the sacrifices."
Daisy Reeves, driving through on her way to North Carolina, says they've made sacrifices too.
"We stop, but you know, we have not stopped as much as we usually stop," she says.
Drivers say gas prices are still too expensive, but $3.25 is the cheapest gas has been in awhile, and the cheapest in the area."
"I'm going to get some gas here," says King. "In Pennsylvania, it's $3.55 and I noticed here it's $3.35, so I'm like 'party, this is cheap!'"
Reeves says even though prices have gone down lately, gas still costs more than it should.
"It went down a little, but it's still high to me," she says. "It's just high to be traveling, but you don't have a choice but to travel!"
King says there wasn't much of a choice for his family, either. He says plane tickets would be too expensive, and hours in a car is good family time.
"My kids get together and we can play some games and talk, and have some fun on our way down."
