HARRISONBURG, Va. (WHSV) -- Workers removed the Fiske Statue in front of the Harrisonburg-Rockingham Circuit Courthouse on Tuesday morning in preparation for its restoration.

It's believed the piece of history was first brought to the city more than 100 years ago. Both a new head and hand will be added to the statue as part of the restoration.

Circuit Court Clerk Chaz Evans-Haywood believes people will be excited to see the piece when it returns, "I think that when it's back here and the water is flowing again, it will just become a significant piece in this community"

The process is expected to be completed within two months.
