Twenty women were sworn in to the US Senate on Thursday, which is a record number of women to ever serve in these top positions in government.
As a woman in Congress, West Virginia Congresswoman Shelley Moore Capito said she was happy to see more women in the Senate. Senator Capito said women are good decision makers and they will bring a better representation of the population.
She said while it's a time to celebrate for women, she hopes this will become a more regular occurrence.
"I think it should be the norm,” said Senator Capito, “I hope we get to the point where every two years, we're not celebrating that we have more women. I think it should just be a part of our fabric of our government."
Capito says these women will serve as good role models for younger girls.
