STAUNTON, VA--- It's that time of year when everyone's least favorite house guests come by uninvited. Stink bugs are a real pest in Virginia, but a recent study says that the most effective method is safe, easy, and cheap.

The Virginia Tech study compared store bought traps to a home-made trap. The home made trap was 14 times as effective as store bought traps. We spoke with an entomologist who said that keeping chemicals away from your home is an added bonus to the cheap home made remedy.

"On the labels, it clearly says not to use in environments that have pets and you don't wanna spray it in areas around food, all those chemicals aren't really necessary for stink bugs specifically, so it may or may not end up doing much good once they're already in your home," said Amanda Rose Newton.

The home made trap consists of nothing more than a foil pan filled with water and dish soap and a light to attract the pests.
