HARRISONBURG, Va. (WHSV)-- Hose Company No. 4 was the first fire department in Rockingham County and recently celebrated its 123rd birthday.
This week, there has been a big push for donations.
The majority of firefighters at this department are volunteers.
Every October, the department hosts a big fundraiser where it hopes to raise enough money to update its equipment and continue training personnel throughout the year.
Last year, the company raised up to $40,000 and a lot of that money went to helping the company buy expensive fuel. This year, the firefighters' goal is to raise more than $350,000 so that they can buy a new tanker for the community.
Elisabeth Orebaugh, president of Hose Company No. 4, said without the donations from the community, the department won't be able to buy the tanker.
"It is a 34-year-old piece of equipment, so we would like to get it updated. A more current version of a tanker would help us to be able to better respond to our community," said Orebaugh.
She said she really appreciates any support the community can give.
If you cannot donate money, the company is always looking for volunteers to help respond to calls or help with fundraisers.
