HARRISONBURG, Va. (WHSV) -- First Night Harrisonburg begins Tuesday at 6 p.m. in Downtown Harrisonburg and ends with a fireworks show at midnight.
Crews were already performing sound checks late Tuesday morning.
Terry Burkhalter, the executive director of First Night, said the event highlights the arts and brings the community together by transforming the downtown area into performance venues.
The night's entertainment includes live comedy, children's activities and a DJ, all things that showcase local and regional talent.
Burkhalter said the event also impacts the local economy.
"We are helping to bring in business to the local restaurants and we are also giving opportunity for the program people. Those artists that are coming in to gain a little revenue that again is pumped back into the community that is helpful to the community," said Burkhalter.
First Night will also have a resolution tower, where you can write down your resolutions for the new year.
They have had it in the past and it's been a big hit, according to Burkhalter.
