Rainy days like Sunday aren't exactly the greatest for a car wash, even if it is free.
However, the volunteers say this is about more than just soap and sponges.
Michelle Argenbright brought her whole family out to help.
"We want people to see that we love our community and that we're good and giving people," says Argenbright. "I think this does let people know that."
She goes to the Blue Ridge Church of Christ in Fishersville, and they do this every year.
The church sponsored 19 different volunteer projects Sunday and had 270 members out volunteering.
"It's just a very community-oriented, very family-oriented thing that just doesn't happen very much anymore," says Argenbright.
Stacey Burkholder, the church's youth pastor, helped organize this year's volunteer day.
"The end result is lives that are touched individually, by people showing that they care," comments Burkholder.
He says the projects help families, schools and other organizations in the community.
"It's the feedback that keeps us doing it every year," adds Burkholder. "The feedback generally is very good. People have a great response to it. It's kind of a selfless deed, and so people really appreciate it."
Argenbright says the day teaches her kids about how important it is to help other people.
"I think it's so important to show our kids that it's not just about themselves," explains Argenbright. "It's such a mean nation anymore. We really need to show them that it's important to get out there, and help those in need, and be a good neighbor."
