HARRISONBURG, Va.-- Hurricane season begins June 1st, and hardware stores want you to be prepared.
Through the end of May, a whole list of items from batteries to weather radios, are all tax free.
Albert Long was in Harrisonburg a few years ago when a huge storm came that he wasn't prepared for. that cost him a lot.
"The power was off four or five days," says Long. "We had a deep freezer with food in it; we lost all of that."
A few years ago, Wayne Wamper's house was damaged by a storm. He says because of that, he knows how important it is to be ready.
"Especially take advantage of the small items and of course as a storm comes in the generators are hard to come by."
Forecasters are predicting between eight and thirteen tropical storms and three to six hurricanes in that Atlantic.
Even Governor McAuliffe is urging Virginians to prepare for hurricane season saying past storms like Hurricane Sandy and Irene have resulted in massive damages in Virginia.
Either way, images like these show that it's evident that mother nature can be unpredictable, and it's better to be safe than sorry.
