Verona According to the Richmond Times Dispatch, more than half of the children currently at the Shenandoah Valley Juvenile Detention Center are illegal immigrants.
The facility serves as the juvenile detention center for Augusta, Rockbridge and Rockingham counties, along with the cities of Harrisonburg, Lexington, Staunton and Waynesboro. According toa report from 2013, 1,400 children total come through each year. On average about 30 children stay at the facility.
WHSV has reached out to the center's executive director, Tim Smith for a comment. We have not heard back from him as of Friday morning.
Several illegal immigrants are also said to being staying at shelters and private organizations in Prince William County. The Chairman of the Board of Supervisors saying they were not today by federal leaders the children were coming to the area.
