ROCKINGHAM COUNTY, Va. (WHSV) -- "Eat more chickin" may be the slogan for Chick-fil-A, but new research shows that's exactly what Americans are doing.

The National Chicken Council reports the amount of chicken Americans are eating is up 17 percent.

Reasons are health and nutrition, followed by taste and then cost. Beef and pork recently have reached record high prices.

Farm expert Jeff Ishee said there couldn't be better news for Valley farmers and the impact reaches to other aspects of our local economy.

"I think a lot of people would be very interested to know it's not just the farmers. It's the entire infrastructure: the transportation, the cooling, the marketing, all of this comes together to create an industry centered here in the Shenandoah Valley that has a very good, very good outlook for the next five years, at least," said Ishee.

Ishee also said the survey reflects a trend that he doesn't see changing any time soon, especially as the price of red meat continues to rise.
