Increase in Father's Day Spending

Updated: Fri 6:57 PM, Jun 15, 2012

According to Forbes , Father's Day spending is expected to go up by 10-percent. We saw that same increase for Mother's Day.

Some local stores are seeing that increase in business. Frank Polito, a worker at Mossy Creek Fly Fishing in Harrisonburg, said he has seen more customers in the store recently. He also said they have been selling lots of t-shirts for Father's Day. He said the store has all sorts of fishing items and accessories that are perfect as gifts for this time of year.

"Typically about four weeks before Father's Day, we have people coming in, asking what we think would be, you know, a nice gift for the fisherman or the outdoorsman in their family," said Polito.

Father's Day has become a nearly $12-billion retail holiday.
