HARRISONBURG-- A tractor trailer driver from South Carolina was taken to Rockingham County jail on Monday morning after he narrowly avoided hitting a fire fighter on I-81.

Around 3:00 a.m., State police officers said they were responding to an accident near mile marker 247 involving two cars. They called in members of the Harrisonburg Fire Department for help, and a tractor trailer almost hit one of them. The fire fighter jumped onto the engine to avoid the truck.

The crashes shutdown I-81 North for a time, but the accident was cleared just after 6:30 a.m.

The driver of the tractor trailer ran into a guardrail and was taken to Rockingham County jail. He's been charged with reckless driving, driving with a suspended license, and property damage.

No one was hurt.
