Iraqi Valley Group Brings Light to Killings Overseas

HARRISONBURG, Va. (WHSV)-- A group of about seventy Valley neighbors formed an unusual protest in Court Square. It was a peaceful gathering to spread the word about the violence in Iraq. The group talked about Iraqi people being killed by the terrorist group Isis.

Many protestors listened as Iraqis living in the Valley shared the horrific conditions unfolding overseas.

Nawras Elias, a protester, has family that is trapped in a schoolhouse in Iraq. He just wants them to be safe.

"This is very horrible and this is very devastating, and we're feeling disappointed because we thought everybody's gonna help us. But, unfortunately, they didn't. Even if they are trying, but it's too late," said Elias.

Members of this group, associated with the Church World Service here in the Valley, have also protested in Washington, D.C.

They are unsure of where they'll end up next, but hoping people will keep listening to their message.
