JMU Campaign Warms Homes with Blue Jeans

James Madison University students will send thousands of pairs of blue jeans to help warm the homes of families in need on Friday.

Several students launched the “Blue to Green Campaign” throughout the month of October. The purpose was to collect old denim jeans in order to turn the material into environmentally friendly insulation.

The jeans will be picked up on Friday and carried to a processing center. They will then be re-processed into their original cotton state to make the material a fire retardant and mold and mildew resistant.

The re-processed fabric will go towards insulating the home of a family affected by disaster.

The group had initially hoped to collect 500 pairs, but they far exceeded their goal.

The latest tally shows they collected 1,741 pairs of blue jeans.
