James Madison University's Student Government Association is looking for ways to remember the impact those fallen students made on campus.
Several Dukes died during the university's fall semester.
SGA held a memorial ball in their honor to help raise money for a campus memorial Saturday night.
JMU sophomore Cassandra Le said every day she remembers her friend Jane Hwang, who died in a bus accident this fall.
"Little things remind me of her," Le said. "She would have loved to come out to something like this, just to be with her family."
JMU junior Josh Christovich said he came up with the idea of a ball after attending a memorial service.
Christovich said he wanted to help unite the campus community after so many deaths.
"It just really hit me," Christovich said. "I looked around, my friends and I and it was just kind of like wow, what if this happens to me? What if this happens to you guys?"
JMU's SGA brainstormed ideas at the ball to help best memorialize students who have died.
One of those ideas is to use a wall on campus in a tunnel for a mural.
Other ideas include a memorial garden donations in their name to JMU's financial aid program.
Le said she and Hwang danced in a campus group, and she saw her just thirty minutes before she died.
"It was really hard for everyone, just because it came out of nowhere. Just the fact that she was with us like two seconds before," Le said.
She said she's thankful SGA has organized a way to remember all who have died on campus and hopes their memories will live on.
"It's a good feeling to be surrounded by all these people who are really close and helping me get through everything."
Any idea would have to be approved by the university.
