BROADWAY, Va. (WHSV) -- Broadway High School's Jess Bergan has been an All-Region performer in four sports for the Gobblers, her drive, setting the tone for Broadway's success.
"I would say mostly just going hard the whole time. You never give up. You never want to finish last. You always want to win the drill. You always want to pass that last pass that's perfect and crisp and everything. You never want to lose possession," said Jess.
"One of the things Jess does extremely well is she leads by example. She's one of the hardest workers on not just this year's team, but any team I've had. She has a tremendous work ethic, and that's earned her the chance to be a team captain," said Bobby Mongold, Jess' basketball coach.
Jess led the Gobblers in goals and assists on the soccer field last season, one of four sports she excels in, all while maintaining a 4.2 GPA, good enough for third in her class.
"Well I think getting the work done in the classroom is definitely the first priority. It's just focus. Don't watch TV. Don't sit on Twitter and look at all this stuff. Just get stuff done," said Jess.
"Jess is a force in the classroom. She is super organized, super articulate. I mean she's just one of those kids who, all-around, you couldn't ask for anything better," said Jennifer Moyers, Jess' English teacher.
"Well, as of right now, I'm thinking I want to be a math major at Bridgewater College. I'm hoping to play soccer," said Jess.
