RICHMOND, Va. (AP) -- A Richmond judge has rejected a plea deal for a teacher charged with taking indecent liberties with a 17-year-old girl.

The Richmond Times-Dispatch reports (http://bit.ly/132DmWN ) that Circuit Judge Richard Taylor refused Friday to accept a deal worked out by the prosecutor and defense attorney in the case of 55-year-old William Lee Hazelgrove. Deputy Commonwealth's Attorney Mary Langer says the agreement called for a conviction on a misdemeanor charge of contributing to the delinquency of a minor and a suspended one-year jail sentence.

Langer says the judge did not give a reason for rejecting the plea bargain.

The Trinity Episcopal School teacher was indicted on one felony count in May.

School officials have said Hazelgrove is on administrative leave. He remains free on bond.
