Stores with Kettles
HARRISONBURG, Va. (WHSV) -- It's Christmas in July and the Harrisonburg Salvation Army is counting on people to give to those in need.
While you may be used to seeing the red kettles during Christmas time, the organization still needs funding in the summer.
Major Hank Harwell said summer is typically the low point for the Salvation Army's funds and donations, which is why every dollar counts this time of year.
You'll hear the bells ringing this week at several stores in Harrisonburg and Rockingham County as volunteers will be collecting donations for low-income families.
Cora Anderson is volunteering to ring the bell this week at Bridgewater Foods. She said she knows what it's like trying to feed herself on a fixed income and can't imagine the struggle some families have to go through, "I feel blessed. And if each one that feels the same as I do would even put a dollar in here, just think of the difference it would make."
