AUGUSTA COUNTY, Va. (WHSV)-- Police officers keep these three things in mind when policing the roads throughout this weekend; seat belt safety, speeding enforcement, and drunk drivers.

According to Waynesboro Police, there have been calls in response to fender benders and accidents off-road. One thing police have also seen an increase in is alcohol-related accidents.

Beyond accidents though, it's a chance for people to spend their Labor Day weekend enjoying the outdoors.

"Used to go on the road all the time, and all week long. and, this seems to be busier than normal. I think it's because the weather's so nice, especially the Blue Ridge Parkway and the Skyline Drive is packed...just packed," said Wendy Layman, a holiday traveler.

In the Valley though, accidents cannot be ignored this weekend. Officers are getting calls for loud parties and noise violations throughout the holiday weekend.

Police stress that one of the best ways Valley neighbors can prevent accidents is by simply buckling your seatbelt.
