AUGUSTA COUNTY, Va -- Staunton police met with the Valley Landlords Association Monday morning. It was all in an effort to learn about some of the newest things to be aware of when renting to tenants.

People talked about things like animal control, property maintenance and how to handle low income housing. This year's landlord and tenant conference also addressed the issue of bath salts in the Valley.

The office on youth talked about what to look for to know if a tenant is involved with drug use. Landlords said they were glad to have learned about bath salts, since it is a growing problem in the Valley.

“A lot of people think we don't have that problem here. We have the problem. We have the problem as bad as anywhere around,” said R.D. Robinson, an Augusta County landlord. “The more people that are knowledgeable of it, the better of we'll all be, and we can teach our young people to avoid these things.”

The Valley Landlords Association said they try to make sure all landlords handle situations in the same way. This makes sure tenants have similar experiences across the Valley.
