TIMBERVILLE, Va. (WHSV) -- No matter the weather, police and law enforcement need to be ready and available to keep you safe.

Even though we should all stay off the roads, that may not be an option for some police officers.

All patrolling officers with the The Harrisonburg Police Department will have access to four-wheel or all wheel drive vehicles Thursday; however, smaller departments like the Timberville Police Department don't have as many resources.

Chief Keith Hand with the Timberville Police Department said they only have one SUV, so he is make sure it's ready to go.

"We've got the SUV's gassed up and we're just doing our regular patrolling. We're patrolling a little heavier at the food stores because it's going to be a little crazy, we're figuring. Just waiting on tomorrow, it's going to be another regular day for us," said Hand.

Hand also said they check-in on the elderly when there's bad weather and if the power goes out and there's no emergencies that's a priority high on the list.
