HARRISONBURG, Va. (WHSV) -- This weekend's small business Saturday was a success for many local businesses.

Over the Moon said it may have been their biggest sales day yet.

The company is a baby and material boutique in Harrisonburg.

It opened on last year's small business Saturday.

The owners said their sales were higher than ever, and that many other local businesses had similar success.

They feel that the sales reflects a desire to shop local.

"I think there's just a really big drive to support your community," said Ren Blackwell, an owner of Over the Moon.

"When you spend dollars in the community, money stays here, so it goes back into the local economy and everyone benefits and profits from that," said Anne Callie Skillman, another owner of Over the Moon.

Small Business Saturday is a local effort to support local businesses.

Another event with special holiday discounts will be held from December 13 to 15.
