WAYNESBORO,Va. (WHSV) -- Hungry families across the Valley are in need of good neighbors. On Friday, we will Stuff a Truck with food for families in need and a local social worker says there are a lot of families in need.
The Blue Ridge Area Food Bank is working with Waynesboro City Public Schools piloting a program to have mobile food pantries at Wenonah Elementary and William Perry Elementary.
Thea Jordan, a social worker and Waynesboro schools liaison said research shows when kids aren't hungry, they perform better in school.
"Children were seen less by the nurse, that attendance had improved, that their overall health seemed to improve," said Jordan.
The school mobile pantry program will include more fresh and more nutritious foods for families like fresh vegetables and fresh fruit.
Distribution is scheduled for October.
