Local Girl Continues Making Progress in Recovery

ROCKINGHAM COUNTY, Va. (WHSV) -- A local girl hit by a car last fall is making progress in her long road to recovery.

Using donations that have poured in from the community, the family has been able to purchase a table for Eliza, which helps her stand up like she could before the accident.

She was hit by a car while attending a birthday party, and that has kept her family working hard to make sure she gets back to where she was before that accident.

Eliza's mom, Lena Pilipenko, said there are signs that she continues on that road to recovery, against all odds.

"When we woke her up, she stretched her arms like kids do, and it's new and it was great. We're like, 'wow.' It's little tiny things, but it makes us feel better. Of course, we have hope," said Lena.

Daniel's in Harrisonburg is selling t-shirts to raise money for Eliza as the family hopes to buy a van so Eliza can go places without an ambulance.

"We hope that when it gets warmer and Eliza gets stronger, it will be a huge thing for us to have a van like that," said Lena.

The t-shirts are $20 each.
