HARRISONBURG, Va. (WHSV) -- Once again it is time to break your New Year's resolutions and buy some Girl Scout cookies.
This year, social media is playing a big role in their cookie sales.
In fact, Beth Raynes, a local troop leader, said social media is the way of the future.
The girls are using social media as a way to advertise, promote and market their cookie sales and location.
Raynes said most importantly, this exercise is being used as a training tool for the girls.
"Social media branches out more than you realize. If you don't have your filers on, it can branch out further than you realize also. So, we are trying to teach them about filters and who you are really touching when you put something on Facebook," said Raynes.
The girls can even earn badges on social media.
Raynes said her goal is to teach them about the impact of what they put on the Internet.
