Arm Bitten by Bugs
LURAY, Va. (WHSV) -- Bed bugs have been reported in a local hotel, but the hotel's manager said his rooms are clean.
Chris Stover, who works with human resources with Niche Enterprises, said he saw the bed bugs while staying at The Best Western in Luray as he and his construction crew dealt with the pests twice.
This image in this article was taken by that crew and they reported the bugs to the health department.
"I just want something done so that no other family or no other person has to deal with the bed bug issues, because it's just not sanitary," shared Stover.
He said his workers were bitten by bed bugs while staying at Best Western; a claim the health department looked into as soon as it was reported.
"We carefully inspected the room and did not find any bed bugs," explained Dr. Charles Devine, III with the Lord Fairfax Health District, “It's possible that there were, in fact, bed bugs maybe left by the last person to occupy the room and only a very small number were present."
Despite this first report in Page County in the past year, the hotel manager sent us this statement:
"After an isolated guest complaint, we took the room out of service while our pest control vendor and health department inspected it. Neither found any evidence of bed bugs. We take these kind of matters very seriously. The health, safety and comfort of our guests and employees is our number one priority."
One of the first things you want to do before climbing into bed is make sure it's clean. If you want to find the bugs, you have to take a look at the mattress. Lift up the sheets and find the seam where the mattress comes together. That's where the bugs like to hide while waiting to make a meal out of you.
Knowing that, Stover and his crew said they'll be checking their sheets twice before staying in a hotel bed again.
"Bed bugs are a huge issue. Once you stay in a hotel room, you have a chance of bringing them back to your house,” Stover concluded.
The hotel's attorney added that the rooms in Luray are clean and that no bed bugs can be found.
