STAUNTON, Va. (WHSV) -- A private school in Staunton will soon become fully coed.
Stuart Hall School currently only allows boys in its day program; however, starting this fall it will allow them in its boarding school as well.
Ann Snyder, the director of admissions at Stuart Hall, said girls make up 80 percent of the school's high school students.
She said opening the boarding school for boys may help reach gender equity and possibly help boys feel they carry equal weight in the school.
Adam Pickett, a student at Stuart Hall, welcomes the change.
"It has been an all-girls school for a while, so there is probably not going to be many boys, but with boy boarding being added on, I am sure more boys will be attracted coming here. It will be more exciting having more boys coming here instead than a lot of girls," said Pickett.
The boys' dorms will be in a separate building than the girls' and they will open this August.
