HARRISONBURG, Va. Several students in Harrisonburg are getting ready to represent the Valley in a National Singing Competition.

Mark Thress is one of several students from James Madison University selected to compete in his category for the Classical Solo Voice Competition. Only 14 people were chosen from around the nation to compete.

Thress met up with his music instructor, reviewing notes and preparing for the big day. His instructor said, being included in this competition shines a positive spotlight on the school. And, opens doors for the future.

Thress said, he is honored to be representing the Valley, "Day in and day out, we are practicing our craft and to get to that sort of recognition, gives you that extra boost to keep trying at it. Sometimes you need that when you are down on yourself. Receiving that extra boost keeps ya going."

His instructor said, he is very proud of all his students and tells them every time you sing is an audition.
