WOODSTOCK, Va. (WHSV) -- An Edinburg mother of two died Tuesday after suffering a heart attack after running a half marathon on Sunday morning.
Sarah Defren, 38, collapsed after completing in the Fredrick Running Festival Half Marathon in Maryland in 2:38:03. She was an avid runner and had completed several races.
Defren suffered a heart attack at the finish line and was taken to Federick Memorial Hospital before being transferred to Johns Hopkins in Baltimore, according to her pastor, Reverend Lisa Webb.
Webb said she died on Tuesday while at Johns Hopkins.
Defren was a a physical therapist who specialized in the elderly and those with Alzheimer's disease. She is survived by her husband, Mark, and two children.
There will be celebration of life at Woodstock Presbyterian Church on Saturday, May 10, at 1 p.m.
