Local City Council Went to Richmond to Voice Concerns

Virginia lawmakers are midway through the legislative session. Thursday, some local leaders met with state legislators to talk about the biggest issues the valley.

The Staunton City Council was one local group that went to Richmond today. Councilman Bruce Elder said the convention was packed with local leaders: all with similar concerns.

Elder said state leaders want to improve transportation, but that means cutting funds from education.

"We're trying to encourage our legislators not to rob the general fund for transportation. That transportation should self-sustain, that general fund revenue should be used for education and shared back to the communities where they come from."

Elder said Staunton, Augusta County and Waynesboro are all seeing major cuts in education funding from the state.
