List of Events Happening in Harrisonburg on Martin Luther King Jr. Day

8:00 a.m. - Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc. hosts Breakfast at Simms Continuing Education Center

10:00 a.m.
- Martin Luther King, Jr. Day Chapel at Eastern Mennonite University followed by a discussion forum, ending at 11:30

12:00 Noon - Harrisonburg City Martin Luther King, Jr. Way Street Renaming Program at Memorial Hall.

1:30 p.m. - Unity March from Memorial Hall to Main Street and back.

7:00 p.m. - James Madison University will host their Annual Martin Luther King, Jr. University Program at Wilson Hall on the campus of James Madison University.

Harrisonburg, Va. (WHSV) Organizers are busy planning for Martin Luther King Jr. Day festivities happening around the city on Monday January 20, 2014.

With a street renamed in his honor, the group also wants to celebrate the accomplishment with events planned for Martin Luther King Jr. day starting on Sunday January 19, 2014 at the Lucy Simms Center and ending at 7 p.m. at JMU.

"To do something collective and colloborate together in the city and so it's a wonderful opportunity to pick your choice of what you like to be involved in and to honor this wonderful peacemaker in the city of Harrisonburg," said Stan Maclin, who is a member of the MLK Jr. Way Coaltion in Harrisonburg.
