ROCKINGHAM COUNTY -- The Massanutten Property Owners Association (MPOA) is looking to crack down on people who are throwing in the wrong type of garbage into its dumpsters.
"What we're really having problems with is people abusing these dumpsters and using them more to clean out their rooms or children's rooms. We're finding some swim team ribbons, dolls and stuffed animals," said Carter Miller, a MPOA administrator.
He says that the county's ordinance for dumping is too relaxed. He is asking the county to increase fines for illegal dumping to up to $2,500, similar to state laws.
The MPOA plans to use the revenue from the fines to purchase surveillance cameras to be installed around the dumpsters, making it easier to catch people disposing the wrong materials.
