WAYNESBORO,Va. (WHSV) -- The Waynesboro Police Department has arrested a Rockingham County man in connection with a burglary at a church in June.
Officers charged Michael Ramirez, 49, of Port Republic, with two felony counts of knowingly possess stolen property. The property in Ramirez’s possession was the television and electric guitar belonging to Pastor Chris Pulice at the Waynesboro Free Methodist Church.
""You feel a little violated. You know, why a church, why not somebody who's not trying to help people you know but, but on another level just recognizing people are people are people, no one's perfect," said Pulice.
Drawers are still damaged at the church from the break-ins. Sound gear and even personal information was taken. The locks on the doors had to be changed twice at the church.
When Pulice realized his guitar, which he uses for worship services, was on Craigslist, he acted fast.
On July 3, officers arrested Ramirez at a business in Waynesboro after setting up a meeting with him on the pretense to purchase the guitar that he had posted on Craigslist. Officers located the television after a search warrant was executed at his residence.
""Know that we love you, we forgive you, we were certainly hurt by the theft, but we just want you to know that you matter to God. And in Jesus, there's incredible hope for freedom, for forgiveness, and for new life," said Pulice.
Ramirez is free on bond and the investigation is still open as police are unsure if Ramirez is the person who broke into the church.
The police department is asking anyone with information to please contact them at 540-942-6675 or call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-322-2017.
