AUGUSTA COUNTY, Va. (WHSV) -- The Augusta County Sheriff's Office arrested a man Saturday in connection to the sexual abuse of a teenager.
James Edwards, 42, was arrested in Stuarts Draft and faces 25 charges, including 12 counts for aggravated sexual battery.
Edwards sexually abused the 13-year-old girl for about a year, according to the sheriff's office.
"These are very sensitive, very difficult cases. And it can be very difficult for a victim to come forward; however, there is help out there. And there's a lot of things we can do to provide assistance to the victims," said Investigator Michael Roane of the Augusta County Sheriff's Office.
Roane would not say how the victim and Edwards knew each other. He said cases like these are delicate and they work very closely with the Valley Children's Center.
"When we have the prosecutor, victim-witness, child protective services and law enforcement working together, we feel that that's the best outcome on these types of sensitive cases," said Roane.
Recently, the girl came forward and told her family of what was going on.
The case is still under investigation and Edwards is currently in Middle River Regional Jail.
