UPDATE: Man Flown To Hospital After Being Hit By Bus

STAUNTON, Va. (WHSV) -- A public transportation bus hit a man on Wednesday morning in Staunton.

At 8:06 a.m., 56-year-old Keith Alves, of Staunton, was hit at the intersection of Greenville Avenue and Johnson Street, suffered a head injury and was knocked unconscious, according to Officer Jennifer Stevens with the Staunton Police Department.

He was then taken by ambulance to Augusta Health and from there, flown to U Va. Medical Center.

As of 4:56 p.m. on Wednesday, Alves was in critical condition.

Joseph Ellinger Jr., 60, of Waynesboro, has been charged with failure to yield to a pedestrian.

The bus involved belonged to Valley Community Services.
