ELKTON-- A high-speed police chase at around 5:30 a.m. on Thursday morning ended with a man in custody, and his car heavily damaged.
Virginia State Police said a police officer went to pull over a Page County man for a traffic infraction, but the driver did not stop. The driver rammed state police cars and was going in excess of 115 mph.
His rampage finally ended on Berrytown Rd., where he went off the road and hit a tree. The impact is thought to have ruptured the driver's gas tank, as the car later erupted in flames.
The McGaheysville Volunteer Fire Company arrived quickly to the scene, extinguishing the fire before it could spread.
Police quickly arrested the man after he crashed into the tree. Despite resisting arrest, he was taken to Rockingham County jail.
Police said they believe the man was under the influence of alcohol. No one was hurt
