BLUE EARTH COUNTY, MINNESOTA -- The hunt for a suspect in a bank robbery in Augusta County extended halfway across the country. George Gaunt, 25, from Louisville, Ky., is in custody in Minnesota.
The Augusta County Sheriff's Office said Gaunt is behind a robbery at the United Bank branch in Weyers Cave. Once investigators got on Gaunt's trail, they said they realized he was behind several robberies.
Augusta County deputies say Gaunt walked into United Bank in Weyers Cave with an note saying he was robbing the branch and that he would kill people with a gun if his demands were not met. The suspect got cash and took off from the bank.
After the robbery, investigators connected Gaunt to a bank robbery later that week in Henry County, Va. Evenutally, investigators in Blue Earth County, Minn., arrested Gaunt in a bank robbery there. He is also linked to a bank robbery in Linn County, Iowa.
The Augusta County Sheriff's Office also said a car reported stolen from Gaunt's hometown of Louisville was found at a Staunton motel. Deputies believe it was the vehicle used at the time of the Weyers Cave robbery.
