Man Warns Of Phone Scam

GREENVILLE, Va -- A man in Greenville is trying to warn people about a phone scam that he tells us almost happened to him.

John Eves got a phone call from a number that was all zeros.

When he picked up, it was a man who said he works for Microsoft and told Eves that his computer had been hacked, and that he needed to pay 250 dollars to protect his computer from being hacked again.

When Eves kept asking questions and he was connected to three different people, and they eventually hung up on him.

Eves says it's important that people be aware of phone call from numbers they don't know.

"It's annoying that it's happening and there are people that are not going to catch on to it and pay the money," says Eves, "If it were a member of my family or my mother or my father, I'd really be mad along with just being annoyed and upset."

Now, Eves says that he is very careful of phone calls from different area codes.
