HARRISONBURG, Va. -- Harrisonburg police are continuing their search for a man who impersonated a police officer and entered homes.

The previous suspect was wrongfully arrested after he was identified by witnesses and matched the physical description of the reported suspect. He also had items in his possession that matched descriptions provided by victims.

During the weekend, police received calls about a man who was trying to get into homes by posing as a police officer. One of those incidents happened on the night of Friday, Jan. 11th.

The police confirmed that the arrested man was out of the area at the time of the incident on Friday.

On Jan. 14th, the Harrisonburg Police and Commonwealth Attorney's office moved to have the charges dropped. The man has since been released from jail.

Police continue their search and ask the community for any information about these incidents. The offender is described as a white male who is 40 to 50 years old, about 5 feet 8 inches tall and of medium stature. The suspect has been identified as having a tattoo on his neck.

The first reported incident occurred when an unknown male entered a South Mason Street home on Jan. 11th around 7 p.m. A second home on West Water Street was entered by a man on Jan. 12th at approximately 8 p.m. There have been other reports of a man trespassing in nearby homes around these times.
