PENDLETON, CO. - Many people in Pendleton County are already getting ready for the snow by stocking up on groceries.

Pam Flynn lives at a higher elevation, so she's used to this and knows what to do.

"If the power goes out, we can heat with wood," said Flynn. "We also keep a good amount of bottled water and two weeks supply of food stuffs in the house."

The workers at Franklin Great Value have been busy too, filling the shelves for the increase of customers over the next couple days.

Alan Thomas, the store's owner, says they're already really busy.

"We keep a deep inventory because we are rural and it does take awhile to get trucks back in, so we do keep a deeper inventory of most grocery stores," said Thomas.

Thomas says his store is the only grocery store in the area, and that's why they're so busy.

Plus he says folks in this area know why they need to stock up before the storm.

"The Department of Transportation does an excellent job over here, the main roads will be open quickly, but there are a lot of back roads and a lot of higher elevations that get deeper snow and it takes a few days for those folks to get out safely," said Thomas.

That's something that Flynn plans for, just in case.

"We're at 3,000 feet so even when there is no snow in McDowell or over in the Valley or even here in Franklin, West Virginia, we are likely to get snow," said Flynn.

Many people in the area say they live about a half hour away from the grocery store in Franklin, so they need to get food now. They say it can be difficult to get there when the snow hits. is happy to provide a forum for commenting and discussion. Please respect and abide by the house rules:
