ROCKINGHAM COUNTY -- Employees at Massanutten Resort are trying to figure out what happened to let an employee fall nearly 25 feet during the weekend. They're looking at one of their newest attractions, a mega zipline.

Sunday at about 5 p.m., an employee was closing down the zipline for the night. He started to climb down the structure, when his support system failed. The employee fell about 25 feet.

He was rushed to Rockingham Memorial Hospital with lower leg injuries.

The part of the support system that is being looked at is called a belay system. The manufacturer is going to examine that piece of descent equipment for any flaws.

“They are going to look at the whole belay process, the rope, the auto-belay. I'm sure they are going to want to speak with the injured employee, as well, to find out his opinion on it. We'll have to wait and see where that goes,” said Kenny Hess, director of sports and risk management.

Right now, the mega zipline is closed to the public. It will reopen as soon as everything is deemed to be safe. is happy to provide a forum for commenting and discussion. Please respect and abide by the house rules:
