HARRISONBURG, Va. (WHSV) -- A program in our community needs more volunteers to help bring meals to seniors in our community.

The Valley Program for Aging Services currently runs the Meals on Wheels Program. Currently nearly 100 volunteers help deliver up to 130 meals to seniors in Harrisonburg and Rockingham County.

Senior services director Beth Bland said paid staff help deliver meals when there are not enough volunteers. However, this can be costly because funding for the program has decreased in the past years.

"Our costs are increasing with the costs of gas, our meal costs have gone up, we are feeling those effects so when you have your funding decreasing that doesn't balance out very well," said Bland.

Bland said the biggest need for volunteers is in Elkton and Harrisonburg. If you want to help, you can contact the volunteer coordinator at 540-383-6855.
