HARRISONBURG,Va. (WHSV)-- According to state police, nine people lost their lives in eight crashes this past Memorial Day weekend.
Speeding was an issue that did not go unnoticed. State police handed out hundreds of tickets in the valley over the weekend.
On route 33 west alone, they pulled over drivers for 45 speeding tickets and numerous seatbelt violations.
Troopers focused on 33 West outside of Harrisonburg because of speeding and motorcycle racing problems.
On Saturday, a motorcycle crash sent two people to the hospital. State police said a car was pulling into a driveway when the motorcycle tried to pass it on route 33.
Neighbors have noticed just how much people speed through the valley, and with small kids in the area, it can be a safety issue.
Joe Hottinger, a valley neighbor, said with the speed limit change on his road from 45 to 55, a lot of drivers don't really change speeds; something he added, that everyone is guilty of.
