STAUNTON -- Beverley Manor Middle School was selected as one of the top five middle school FFA chapters in the nation.

Sally Shomo has taught agricultural education at Beverley Manor Middle School for 24 years. She wants her students to understand it's not all about farming, even though that's an important part of our community.

"In FFA, we try to instill in our students leadership. We try to teach them how to grow personally," said Shomo.

Her students said they have learned life-long skills from being in FFA.

"Get out there and meet other people. Don't just be so isolated, be willing to try new things," said Maggie Earhart, treasurer of the FFA chapter at Beverly Manor MS, "It's taught me the value of the dollar, and how to have patience and handle the animals better.”

Shomo will be retiring after this year, but she has high hopes for the future of the chapter.

"That this program will continue to grow after I leave, and still maintain that high standard of what we look for in an agricultural education class and FFA chapter," Shomo said.
