ROCKINGHAM COUNTY -- Rockingham County sheriff's deputies are looking for the person or persons responsible for smashing more than a dozen car windows.

They believe that the windows were smashed by what is believed to be BB guns in the Belmont Estates neighborhood.

Neighbors are still shocked that something like this could happen on their street.

"It makes you feel violated," said Odette McCaul, whose car window was in pieces when she got home.

The neighborhood watch believes the incident happened between midnight and 6 a.m.

"Why would a human being do that to someone else," said McCaul.

McCaul rushed back from work this morning to see her car window in pieces.

"It's awful that you live in a neighborhood that you think you're safe and you come and find things like this done," said McCaul.

Neighbors say this isn't the first time that something like this has happened in the community. They say that an inverse cross was spray painted on a trailer in the community during the spring.

"Our trailer as well had expletive words. Anti-religion," said Freed whose trailer was vandalized.

Freed says she never expected anything like this to happen.

"It kind of makes you feel sort of vulnerable," said Freed.

After these crimes the chairman of the neighborhood watch plans on re-establishing a stronger neighborhood watch team.

"We're not using it very much, but it needs to be used. It needs to be activated," said Leon Bailey," the chairman of the neighborhood watch.

You can still see plastic bags covering the windows of some of the cars hit. Many car owners are working out how to repair their vehicles with their insurance companies.

No word on any suspects from the Sheriff's department.
