People from the Valley to as far north as New England reported seeing a blue to green flash in the sky shortly before 8 p.m.
WHSV Facebook fans reported seeing the possible meteor from many places in the Valley. Reports of sightings have come from the Washington area north up to Boston.
On the WHSV-TV 3 Facebook page, the John C. Wells Planetarium at JMU posted, "All reports are consistent of very bright and perhaps very large meteor streaking across our sky from West to East. So far, reports coming in suggest it was seen as far away as New England! No evidence (yet!) of the space rock striking the Earth. Certainly, no reports of damage like what we saw with the recent Chelyabinsk, Russia landstrike."
