Two police agencies, a SWAT team and U.S. Marshals surrounded a house in Staunton, searching for a murder suspect.
Several hours later it all came to a peaceful end with the suspect in custody.
That murder suspect, Dallas Chaplin, is in jail in Harrisonburg.
Swat Team members with guns and bulletproof vests focused on a house in the 200 block of West Peabody Street in Staunton.
After more than three hours, Dallas Chaplin was arrested. Police say they found him in the basement.
Chaplin is accused of killing Ben Graessle.
Robert Fowler and his girlfriend live a few houses down.
"It was just crazy, cop cars, undercover cars, going up and down the street, blocking off the roads, it was quite a scene," said Fowler.
During a conversation between Fowler and WHSV's Deon Guillory, a woman is believed to be related to Chaplin, came out of the house. Here is one exchange:
Deon Guillory: "Ma'am are you okay?"
Deon Guillory: "Can I ask you a couple of questions?"
Woman: "No, you cannot."
Deon Guillory: "Where are you going?
Woman: "Ugh, not here."
The woman then walked away, but realized the car she was looking for was in the direction from which she came.
For Robert, seeing something like this in his neighborhood is unusual.
"Most of the people in this neighborhood are pretty, upstanding and are all nice people so, that really surprised me," said Robert Fowler
Dallas Chaplin faces several charges including First Degree Murder.
